Fulham vs Newcastle prediction: ENGLAND: FA Cup betting tips on match 2024-01-26 19:00.
After coming up short in their history-making League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, Fulham must now rally quickly as attention turns to the FA Cup. The Cottagers have progressed beyond the fourth round just once across the last six seasons, but that exception happened to be last year, when they reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by eventual finalists Manchester United.
Fulham’s recent record against Newcastle doesn’t make for pretty reading, as they’re winless from the last seven H2Hs (D2, L5) and have lost the last four. They can certainly take heart, though, from the fact that in their last two fixtures at home to top-flight opponents (Arsenal and Liverpool), they have come from behind to earn a win and a draw respectively. They’ll hope if they do so here it’s not the latter, which would earn them a replay that they could probably do without given their congested fixture list of late.
Having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League, suffered four successive league defeats heading into this match and exited the League Cup on penalties at Chelsea in the quarter-finals, the FA Cup represents Newcastle’s only remaining chance of silverware in 2023/24. However, with a persistently long injury list and the prospect of having to sell key players if they’re to invest in the squad, spirits are unusually low on Tyneside.
But having historically struggled at Craven Cottage, the Magpies have won on their last three visits, scoring ten goals in the process and conceding just one. Newcastle have only got past the FA Cup fourth round once in the last 17 campaigns though, something they will be looking to address along with their poor record in the capital this season, which has so far seen them fail to record a victory in three attempts.
Players to watch: After greatly impressing off the bench against Liverpool, Harry Wilson will be hoping for a start on Saturday as he looks to add to his six goal involvements in all competitions this term (G2, A4). Miguel AlmirĂłn meanwhile has scored three goals in his last three meetings with Fulham, including a brace on his last H2H away trip.
Hot stat: Since the start of November, Fulham and Newcastle have drawn just twice between them.
