Germany vs Hungary prediction: EUROPE: UEFA Nations League – League A betting tips on match 2022-09-22 18:45.
The Red Bull Arena in Leipzig plays host to a top of the table clash in the UEFA Nations League (UNL) Group A3, with Germany looking to extend a run of 13 matches without defeat (W9, D4). Victory for Die Mannschaft would put them in pole position to secure qualification for the UNL semi-finals for the first time, although an away trip to old foes England awaits after this clash.
Hansi Flick’s men will surely be feeling confident of securing a good result, with the four-time world champions having never lost a home tie in the UNL since its inception (W2, D5). There is that recurring theme of drawing at home in the UNL though, something they can’t really afford here, but with four 1-1 draws also across their last five internationals, goalscoring issues could scupper their bid to take over at the top of the group, with just their 5-2 rout of Italy seeing the Germans score more than once in a game in this UNL campaign.
Unlikely group leaders Hungary have every reason to believe they can pull off an upset though, defying the odds to sit atop a group of three former World Cup winners. Ranked just 37 in the world, Marco Rossi’s men have impressively beaten England twice, and have the best defence in the group, conceding just three times in their first four games.
The Magyars are also unbeaten in their last two H2Hs against Germany, including a 2-2 draw in the UEFA European Championship last year and another in the reverse UNL fixture in June. Still, the chances of a Hungary victory appear slim, holding just one win over Germany since 1985 which came in a friendly in 2004. Yet with so much at stake the visitors will be treating this one incredibly seriously, with victory putting them on the brink of a semi-final appearance in a UEFA tournament for the first time in 50 years.
Players to watch: Midfield maestro Joshua Kimmich has contributed to a goal in three of his last four internationals (G2, A1), while Hungary captain Ádám Szalai will be looking to end an eight-match run without a goal for his country, but he was on target in the 2-2 H2H draw at Euro 2020.
Hot stat: Germany have never lost when Jonas Hofmann is in the squad (W11, D6)
