Getafe vs Villarreal prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2022-08-27 15:30.
Getafe and Villarreal completed the second round of the 2022/23 La Liga (LL) season at opposite ends of the table, and whilst they may not be 19 places apart by kickoff, a third-consecutive defeat for Getafe would see the home side almost halfway to the seven-game losing streak that opened their previous LL campaign, and brought a premature end to now ex-manager MĂchel’s second stint in charge of the club.
In his third tenure as Getafe boss, Quique Sánchez Flores will be feeling the pinch after seven consecutive LL games without a win (D4, L3). His club conceded exactly three goals in each of those three defeats, including to lowly clubs such as Elche and most recently Girona.
Villarreal come into this contest after ending their longest ever winless streak against an Atlético Madrid opposition that were 12 points their superior last season. Also earning his first personal victory over Diego Simeone in 20 attempts with that 2-0 result, manager Unai Emery expressed pride in his side’s “very mature” overcoming of a “major challenge”, but stressed the need for consistency from a squad that’s strung together three consecutive league wins (in the same season) just twice in his nearly two-year stewardship. Now could be the time though as after they qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage during the week, Villarreal still boast a perfect record (W4) across all 2022/23 competitions.
When assessing the depths to which their opponents here have sunk, Villarreal’s seventh consecutive LL defeat of Getafe should be a walk in the park. But the Yellow Submarine failed regularly under the burden of expectations last season, particularly away from home. Of all the LL clubs to start more than one match as a travelling favourite in 2021/22, Villarreal were the only ones to lose the majority of their fixtures as favourites (W3, D2, L6), albeit with an April 2022 trip to Getafe one of the few exceptions.
Players to watch: Enes Ünal was Getafe’s only scorer not just in the last round, but also in their previous meeting with Villarreal. After his match opener last week, five of protégé Nicolas Jackson’s seven goals for Villarreal or Villarreal B have been away from home.
Hot streak: Getafe have scored no more than one goal in their last seven LL home fixtures.
