Huddersfield Rotherham prediction 2022-12-29

Huddersfield vs Rotherham prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-12-28 19:45.
Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United seek to finish the year strongly as both remain in the bottom half of the Championship standings among several clubs battling to guarantee their survival. Basement dwellers Huddersfield at least gave their fans some much-needed Boxing Day cheer with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Preston North End, leaving it late to claim a first win in four league games (D1, L2).

Manager Mark Fortheringham praised the ‘strong character’ his side showed to fight back as they hauled themselves to within five points of safety. If the charge towards escaping the drop zone is to continue, correcting a recent slump of no goals in any of their last three home Championship matches (D1, L2) will be a priority, especially as they’ve lost just one of the last 12 home H2Hs (W9, D2).

However, Rotherham did manage to secure a goalless draw here on their last visit and held Stoke City 2-2 on Boxing Day to snap a two-game losing streak, so they’ll make the short trip to face their Yorkshire rivals with some confidence, even if boss Matt Taylor was disappointed they didn’t hold on to win what he described as a “crash, bang, wallop” post-Christmas affair.

The Millers have also struggled on the road this Championship campaign (W2, D5, L5), although as one of those wins came in a Yorkshire derby (1-0 vs Sheffield United) they shouldn’t be short of inspiration. They are yet to score more than twice in a Championship away fixture this term though, so a fifth league clean sheet of the season on the road would be a welcome late Christmas present.

Players to watch: Jordan Rhodes’ equaliser against Preston – his 96th Huddersfield goal in what was his 200th appearance for the club – means he’s undefeated across his last ten Championship goalscoring appearances (W9, D1). Rotherham’s own lucky charm is Conor Washington, who hasn’t lost any of his last 13 goalscoring games (W9, D4) after scoring as a substitute last time out – that run also includes October’s 2-1 H2H win.

Hot streak: Huddersfield haven’t conceded in the opening 15 minutes at home in the league this term – nor have Rotherham during this period on the road.
