Huddersfield vs Stoke prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-08-12 14:00.
Reaching last season's Championship play-off final is now a distant memory as Huddersfield Town have begun their league season with consecutive losses. A 4-1 loss in the Carabao Cup in midweek won’t have helped morale either, as new manager Danny Schofield stands on the verge of becoming the first Huddersfield manager to lose his first three league games in charge.
The Terriers are still smarting from the loss of key players in the summer but Schofield insists that "they can't afford to be negative." Huddersfield started their home campaign without a shot on target and the eventual 1-0 defeat was the fifth successive time they have lost their opening home league game. The home fans are used to witnessing immediate redemption though, as Huddersfield responded with a win in the second home game in the last two league campaigns.
Stoke City are also arriving on the back of a cup defeat, having lost to League One side Morecambe. Visiting boss Michael O'Neill admitted "there's still loads to work on" although they won their last league match, while his side can also look to an unbeaten five-game away league H2H record (W1, D4) to give them belief they can take something from this game.
The Potters would love a win however, having started their away league campaign with a loss for the fourth time across the last six seasons. While 11 of their last 13 away Championship wins have come with a clean sheet, repeating the trick here would need Stoke to pick a first H2H clean sheet since 2018 (W3, D2, L1).
Players to watch: Huddersfield’s Jordan Rhodes struck in their Carabao Cup defeat but is yet to score a goal or be on the winning side against Stoke in the Championship (D2, L3). Contrastingly, Stoke’s Dwight Gayle has scored in each of his three Championship matches against Huddersfield (W1, D1, L1).
Hot stat: Thirteen of the last 17 H2Hs have seen both teams score.
