Hull vs Coventry prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-09-14 18:45.
Friday night football gives early season play-off contenders Hull the chance to pick up where they left off prior to the international break, with ten points from their first five games this term seeing them enter the break in sixth spot. Boss Liam Rosenior has led his team to three wins in their last four since defeat on the opening day, including a hard-fought triumph at promotion favourites Leicester, as Rosenior insisted his side are “finding their rhythm”.

Standing in their way on home soil are a Coventry side who Hull took four points off last season, which includes a 3-2 win for the Tigers at the MKM Stadium a little over a year ago. And while a repeat of that goalfest may not be on the cards given only two of Hull’s last ten Championship home games saw more than two goals scored, a repeat result – one which would see them end the night in the top two – seems possible for a side who lost just one of those games (W5, D4).

Coventry endured a difficult summer, losing two star men in Viktor Gyökeres and Gustavo Hamer to Sporting Lisbon and Sheffield United respectively. Couple that with the hangover from their play-off final defeat, and Mark Robins’ side come out the other side of the international break with just one win to their name, although the optimistic Coventry fans will point to the fact they endured a similarly slow start to the last campaign.

The omens don’t appear positive for improving upon that start with a trip to Humberside either, having lost four of the last eight H2Hs (W2, D2), a run which dates back to October 2010. A four match winless run in regular season Championship away games would hint at that misery extending, but three 1-1 draws in that run does at least indicate they’re hard to beat.

Players to watch: Manchester City loanee Liam Delap grabbed the winner in Hull’s win at Leicester. That was his sixth Championship goal, the last two of which were game openers. His opposite number on Friday night will be Matt Godden, who despite netting an 87th minute leveller in the 3-3 draw at Watford in their last outing, has seen his other three goals this season come before half-time.

Hot stat: Coventry boss Mark Robins has faced Hull eight times over the course of his 16-year managerial career, winning just once (D2, L5).
