Hull Sheffield Wed prediction 2023-08-12

Hull vs Sheffield Wed prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-08-11 14:00.
Added time heartbreak against Norwich denied Hull City a point on opening day, as Liam Rosenior’s men endured a 2-1 defeat at Carrow Road. Scoreline aside, Rosenior was not only disappointed in his touchline antics that saw him sent off after Norwich’s winner, but also a little disgruntled with his side’s performance, insisting they fell short of their usual standards.

A return to the KCOM Stadium may therefore be timely as Hull seek to put their first points of the season on the board, with only last season’s Championship winners, Burnley, beating the Tigers on home turf in 2023 league action (W5, D6). And having won each of the last three H2Hs against Sheffield Wednesday, Hull should be confident of extending that impressive run of form.

It was a much similar story for Championship returnees Sheffield Wednesday on opening day, as they too conceded late in a 2-1 defeat. It wasn’t quite the second-tier homecoming new boss Xisco Muñoz would’ve hoped for, and after promising the Hillsborough faithful that “better days are to come”, victories will be needed quickly if he’s to deliver on that promise.

One glaring issue he will have to address is the Owls’ inability to spread their wings on the road at this level, with 15 defeats from their last 20 Championship away games (W2, D3) certainly eye-catching for all the wrong reasons. Tightening up defensively this time around could make a huge difference, after conceding 42 goals and recording zero clean sheets across those 20 outings when they last played at this level back in 2020/21!

Players to watch: Loanee Liam Delap was on the scoresheet on opening day for Hull, and his senior scoring appearances usually guarantee entertainment with all six seeing both teams score. Wednesday’s Lee Gregory was also on the goal trail on gameweek one, and his last three strikes have all been the second of the game.

Hot streak: None of the last five H2Hs hosted by Hull saw both teams score.
