Hull vs Stoke prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-12 18:45.
Shota Arveladze admitted it’s time his Hull players “put together a series performances” as they look to bounce back from successive defeats for the first time since April. Hull made a strong start to their Championship campaign (W2, D2), but following their 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United last time out, have since sunk to 12th place on the back of conceding more goals (15) than anybody else in the division.
Hull’s H2H record against opponents Stoke does little to provide confidence of tightening up that leaking defence though, given Hull lost both clashes 2-0 in 2021/22 and have won just two of the last ten meetings between the two sides in the second tier (D3, L5). It’s not all doom and gloom for the Tigers however, with the returning midfield duo of Ozan Tufan and Jean Michaël Seri providing a welcome boost as Hull bid to get their stuttering season back on track.
Perhaps Hull can look to the Potters’ dreadful record in midweek away matches for some comfort. Besides a victory against Swansea in August last year, Stoke have not managed a single away league victory on a Tuesday since beating Norwich in March 2008 (W1, D8, L17), which perhaps goes some way to explaining why Stoke are enduring a fifth-successive Championship season since relegation from the Premier League in 2017/18.
That is just another problem for boss Alex Neil to deal with as he goes in search of his first win since taking over the Stoke reins last month (D1, L1). Addressing a dreadful away record that has seen Stoke pick up just three wins in their last 15 Championship trips (D4, L8) remains high on the agenda, with that run seeing Stoke concede at least two goals on nine occasions.
Players to watch: Tigers striker Óscar Estupiñán remains the top scorer in the Championship with his seven goals incredibly coming from just three scoring appearances. Meanwhile Stoke forward Nick Powell has netted four times in five appearances against Hull (W3, D2), making them his joint-most prolific opponent.
Hot stat: Stoke are Alex Neil’s fifth club as a manager – at three of the previous four he has won at least one of his opening three matches.
