Leicester Preston prediction 2023-10-04

Leicester vs Preston prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-10-03 18:45.
Two of the early Championship pacesetters meet on Wednesday evening as Leicester City welcome Preston North End to the King Power Stadium. After a 4-1 demolition of Blackburn at the weekend, the Foxes are looking for their fifth straight league victory in the same season for the first time since 2019/20, when they went on a sensational eight-match winning streak between October and December.

That run of wins nearly four years ago included the famous 9-0 thumping of Southampton, and while Leicester haven’t been quite as free-scoring in any specific match following their relegation to the second tier, ahead of the round only Norwich City have netted more in the division so far this term. Interestingly though, the 2015/16 Premier League champions have scored 13 of their 18 league goals on the road.

Preston are just four points behind their illustrious opponents, but come into this contest off the back of a 4-0 thrashing at home by West Bromwich Albion. That defeat was the Lancashire outfit’s first league loss of the campaign and meant that they had failed to win back-to-back Championship games for the first time this season, leaving boss Ryan Lowe to ponder where things are going wrong.

Lowe felt that the battering by the Baggies was merely a “blip”, and having guided the club to their best start since the division was rebranded to the Championship 19 years ago, he will no doubt be quietly confident that his side can quickly find their feet again. He may feel quietly confident that can happen here too, as Preston have won on five of their previous six visits to Leicester.

Players to watch: Jamie Vardy has five goal contributions in his last eight matches in all competitions (G4, A1), and he’ll hope to continue that good form when he faces Preston – the 92nd opponent of his club career. Preston’s top scorer Will Keane (G4) will be looking to find the back of the net once more after a spell out through injury – all three of his away goals this term have arrived after half-time.

Hot stat: Ahead of the round, no team has gained more points from losing positions in the Championship than Preston's eight this season.
