Liverpool vs Wolves prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2022-09-09 14:00.
Liverpool return to England with their tails firmly between their legs, after suffering their joint-heaviest UEFA Champions League defeat in a 4-1 loss at Napoli during midweek. That result had manager Jürgen Klopp claiming his side need to improve in “pretty much everything”, and only compounds their woes in the Premier League (PL), where the hard work in beating Bournemouth and Newcastle was seemingly undone with a lacklustre 0-0 draw in last weekend’s Merseyside derby, leaving them playing catch-up already.
The only solace for the Reds appears to be their formidable record at Anfield, where they haven’t lost a PL game since March 2021 (W20, D6), keeping 15 clean sheets in that time. The arrival of Wolves provides manager Klopp further ammunition to inspire his men considering he’s won all eight of his managerial PL H2Hs by an aggregate score of 16-2, though Klopp stated in midweek that if Wolves had seen Liverpool’s European defeat they would be “laughing”, and would see this game as the “perfect moment” to face his demoralised side.
Wolves will likely still regard this as a tough game despite Klopp’s comments, and travel hunting back-to-back league wins for the first time since March, after snapping their 13-game winless run in the league with a slender 1-0 victory over Southampton last weekend. Much like last season, goals seem to be at a premium when Wolves are involved, having scored (three) and totaled (seven) the least amount of goals thus far.
Bruno Lage’s men are also winless in their last seven away games (D2, L5), although their last win on the road did come on Merseyside with a 1-0 victory across Stanley Park at Everton. That result contributes to nine of their last ten PL away matches being decided by a goal or less, the only exception being their 3-1 loss at Anfield on the final day of last season.
Players to watch: Liverpool’s talismanic centre-back Virgil Van Dijk holds the record for the most undefeated home PL matches with a single club (W57, D10), and has conceded only once in five games against Wolves. He’ll be paying close attention to Wolves’ Daniel Podence, who’s seen six of his eight PL goals arrive before half-time.
Hot stat: There’s been goals in both halves in eight of Liverpool’s last nine PL matches.
