Luton Burnley prediction 2023-02-18

Luton vs Burnley prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-02-17 15:00.
Despite playing almost half the game against ten men, Luton could only muster a 1-1 draw against Preston in midweek, as they missed the chance to capitalise on Sheffield United’s slip-up in the automatic promotion race. The Hatters have now been thrown a tough test as they bid to return to winning ways too, with table-topping Burnley the next side to try and end Luton’s five-game unbeaten league run (W3, D2).

These two sides have only met twice at Kenilworth Road since the turn of the century, but with Luton losing both of those conquests, they’ll have to look elsewhere for inspiration. Perhaps they can look to boss Rob Edwards for that, as he is actually one of just two Championship managers to get the better of Burnley this season, beating them 1-0 whilst in charge of Watford back in August.

Having missed the chance to secure an outright Championship record of 11 successive league victories in midweek with a 1-1 draw against Watford, Burnley hit the road hoping to start another winning run. Four successive Championship away wins would hint at Burnley getting back on track at Luton, with this the first of back-to-back circa 400 mile round trips for the Clarets in a matter of days.

Whether fatigue plays a part remains to be seen, but with another couple of injuries collected in midweek, boss Vincent Kompany will be looking to the fringes of his squad here. Yet with Burnley having seen more of their goals come from substitutes (ten) than any other Championship side, including Michael Obafemi’s late equaliser against Watford, if any side in the league can cope with a depleted squad, it’s probably this one.

Players to watch: Luton’s Carlton Morris continued his fine season against Preston, marking his ninth successive scoring appearance to see him net the opener. In contrast, the hero for Burnley in midweek, Obafemi, saw his equaliser mark his third successive goal to serve as the game’s last.

Hot stat: Burnley have led at half-time in four of their last five away league games.
