Luton Burnley prediction 2023-10-03

Luton vs Burnley prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-10-02 18:30.
High on their first Premier League (PL) win of the season after beating Everton 2-1 on Saturday, Luton Town return to Kenilworth Road knowing this clash against Burnley is a perfect chance to put clear daylight between themselves and a side who accompanied them in promotion last season. Boss Rob Edwards insists his side are “growing and progressing”, and what better way to back up that sentiment than by securing a first home league win of the season here.

Luton have certainly been inching closer to securing that feat, following up their loss against West Ham in their PL home opener with a draw against Wolves, an upwards trend they’d like to see continue here. They were inched out of this corresponding fixture 1-0 last season, but Edwards does know what it takes to beat Burnley, having masterminded a 1-0 home victory over the Clarets whilst in charge of Watford early last season.

Burnley felt that familiar sinking feeling at the weekend, as their winless PL start stretched to six games (D1, L5) courtesy of a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle. It’s been a similar story all season for the Clarets, with boss Vincent Kompany again citing “mistakes” as what took the game away from his side, and despite admitting his team “battled hard”, he’ll be fully aware that alone isn’t enough to earn points in the top-flight.

It’s hard to find many positives for Burnley at the moment, but perhaps they can take heart from the fact they have travelled well in 2023, with that Newcastle defeat their first league reverse on the road in the calendar year. Most of those games came in the Championship, and while translating that form into the PL now remains the ultimate goal, their last top-flight away win didn’t come too far away from here at the home of Luton’s bitter rivals, Watford!

Key battle: Tom Lockyer was on the scoresheet against Everton, but he was interestingly sent off in this corresponding fixture last season. He’ll have his hands full trying to mark the returning Lyle Foster here, who returns from suspension having been involved in 75% of Burnley’s PL goals scored this season (G2, A1).

Hot stat: Luton are one of two PL teams not to have seen a goal scored in the opening 15 minutes of a league game this term.
