Luton Coventry prediction 2022-09-14

Luton vs Coventry prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-13 18:45.
Last weekend's postponements may have given enough time for Luton Town manager Nathan Jones to reflect on his team’s 2-1 loss to Wigan Athletic, one where he admitted his side weren't at their “best in terms of energy levels." They need to start digging into their energy reserves soon though as the euphoria of a surprise play-off finish last season has already given way to a potential relegation scrap with the Hatters sitting just a point above the bottom three (W2, D3, L3).

Home form is to shoulder a major portion of the blame as Luton are yet to win at Kenilworth Road this league campaign (D2, L2) – only going longer without a win at the start of a home second-tier season back in 1994/95. However, that may change if Luton continue their recent dominance over Coventry and make it four consecutive league H2H wins for the first-time ever.

Boosting that optimism, basement club Coventry City are yet to get going and remain winless this league campaign (D1, L4). Having now lost five competitive games in a row, and with no goals in 200+ minutes of Championship action, boss Mark Robins lamented that his side “were poor mentally” in the aftermath of their 3-0 loss to Norwich, so the weekend postponements could also prove to be a blessing in disguise for the club’s revival hopes.

Immediate improvements are needed on the road though, as Coventry have conceded three goals in each of their last three away losses. The prospect of losing four away Championship games in a row now looms large, and halting that will likely require them to at least start scoring – but Coventry haven’t scored against Luton for four straight H2Hs.

Players to watch: Carlton Morris (LUT) has scored in his last two home games and could become the first Luton player since October 2006 to do so in three successive Championship home matches. Viktor Gyökeres may prove to be Coventry’s saviour as their lone point came in a match where he scored. Three of Coventry’s last four draws have actually seen a Gyökeres strike.

Hot streak: At least one side has failed to score before half-time in Luton’s last 15 Championship matches.
