Luton Wigan prediction 2022-09-03

Luton vs Wigan prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-02 14:00.
After a slow start, things are finally heating up for Luton and an impressive 2-1 victory over Cardiff in midweek extended their unbeaten league run to three games (W2, D1). Interestingly, both those victories came in South Wales but manager Nathan Jones will be acutely aware Luton’s home form needs to improve quickly if they are to keep up with the early pace-setters.

After his touchline antics landed him in hot water with Cardiff boss Steve Morison, Jones swiftly reminded the Bluebirds boss that the game was “all about winning”. Though that win at all costs mentality hasn’t helped Luton at Kenilworth Road, with the Hatters not tasting victory on home turf in four league matches (D3, L1 inc play-offs), failing to score more than once in their last seven Championship outings here!

In the eyes of most Wigan fans, seven points from their opening six league games is a solid return and keeps the Latics slightly ahead the one point per game mark which would’ve kept them up in each of the last two seasons. After two fruitless home games (D1, L1), albeit against two of the league's big-hitters in Burnley and West Brom, Wigan may be glad of a return to the road after beating Birmingham 1-0 on their last away outing.

Having lost just two of their last 24 away league games (W15, D7), Leam Richardson’s side are on the brink of remaining unbeaten in their first three league road trips of a season for the first time since 2010/11. Things are seldom that easy for Wigan, but having lost just once in their last six away H2Hs (W2, D3), maybe that piece of history is within reach.

Players to watch: Luton’s Luke Freeman scored his first league goal since October 2020 in midweek and this will be his first personal senior H2H meeting with Wigan. Josh Magennis was also a midweek scorer and three of his four Wigan goals have been game openers.

Hot stat: Wigan have kept a clean sheet in five of their last eight Championship away games.
