Lyon Marseille prediction 2023-04-23

Lyon vs Marseille prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-04-22 18:45.
Lyon prepared for the 122nd ‘Choc des Olympiques’ against Marseille by reaching a half-century of Ligue 1 points after beating Toulouse 2-1 in the last round to keep them in with a chance of European qualification. It’s been a perfect April so far in the league with three wins, so they’re now seeking four consecutive Ligue 1 victories in the same season for the first time since February 2021.

So closely matched is this rivalry in Ligue 1 (Lyon: W36, D40, L29) that Lyon have scored just five more H2H goals than their rivals but having gone seven games unbeaten at home this campaign (W4, D3), they’ll feel they can extend that slim advantage. In fact, Laurent Blanc’s side haven’t lost a home H2H since November 2007 (W10, D6) so they’ve had the better of clashes with Marseille here for some time.

But as Marseille are on a six-match unbeaten run themselves (W3, D3), they could feel they’ve as good a chance of winning here as they have in a while, and they must maintain that run if they’re to keep any sort of pressure on leaders PSG. Anything picked up here will also boost their already strong chances of returning to the UEFA Champions League next term.

Igor Tudor’s side haven’t lost a league away game since mid-October (W8, D2) so they’ve become a points-gathering machine on the road, highlighted by no team in Europe’s top five leagues currently being on a longer unbeaten away run. Unsurprisingly perhaps, Marseille have only trailed at half-time in one of those ten league away games, something they haven’t done in any of the last four H2Hs here (HT: W1, D3).

Players to watch: Among Ligue 1’s leading scorers this term, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette netted in their last two fixtures and three of his four career goals against Marseille came at home. Vitinha, who bagged a brace for Marseille against Troyes (W 3-1), has opened the scoring in each of his last three goalscoring outings.

Hot streak: None of the last eight H2Hs saw both sides score after half-time (Lyon: W4, D2, L2).
