Mainz RB Leipzig prediction 2022-10-08

Mainz vs RB Leipzig prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-10-07 13:30.
Mainz slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Freiburg last weekend, stretching their record to just one league win in five Bundesliga matches (D1, L3). Goalkeeper Robin Zentner spoke positively after the defeat, stating the hosts “only had a handful of chances, we can build on this and need to take it with us”. While this outlook can be admired, the home faithful are likely to lose patience if their side continue their winless home league start (D2, L1), which is something they’ve only had to endure twice previously over their opening three home Bundesliga matches.

A lack of goals at the MEWA Arena has been the obvious problem, with Mainz scoring a league-low one home goal. They do boast a pretty good record against the visitors at least, losing only one of the last five H2H matches at this venue (W3, D1) and scoring exactly three goals in three of those games. Perhaps they are the ideal opponent for Mainz to reignite their campaign, especially given manager Bo Svensson picked up his first Mainz victory after four attempts against Die Roten Bullen last season.

RB Leipzig are level on points with their hosts, capturing the meek nature of their performances so far, though they have looked improved under manager Marco Rose who arrived early last month. His side come into the clash on the back of a dominant 3-1 Champions League victory over Celtic in midweek, and they also hammered Bochum 4-0 at home in their last Bundesliga contest, but their results had alternated between victory and defeat across their last five league matches heading into that win, so manager Rose won’t be letting his side get too carried away here.

Away form is a key reason why Leipzig have not been able to add more consistency to their game and only Bochum have picked up fewer away points than their one. Each of their last four league and Champions League away clashes actually ended in defeat, with the last three of those coming ‘to nil’.

Players to watch: Mainz defender Stefan Bell is building a reputation as a bit of a hot head. He’s already picked up four Bundesliga yellow cards this season and had, coming into the round, committed the most fouls in the division (18). He’ll be trying to stop Leipzig’s Timo Werner who has scored 13 goals across 13 Bundesliga games against Mainz – more than against any other club.

Hot stat: A former Mainz player himself, Leipzig’s Rose has his joint-highest number of Bundesliga wins against his old club (five).
