Mainz vs St. Pauli prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2025-02-21 14:30.
[p]Following a 2-0 win over Heidenheim last weekend, Mainz now have the opportunity to strengthen their slender grip on a European place as they aim for back-to-back Bundesliga victories for the first time since returning from the winter break. Facing 14th-placed St. Pauli may be a blessing in that regard, given that Mainz have won by at least two goals and without reply in five of their six league games against bottom-five ranked opponents (L1). [/p]
[p]Playing at home should further boost Mainz’s hopes as they enter this clash on the back of an imperious seven-game unbeaten league run here (W5, D2). Bookended by a sequence of three consecutive clean sheets, Mainz haven’t produced a longer run without conceding at home in the top-flight since February 2022. [/p]
[p]St. Pauli probably aren’t the best opponent to attempt to end that run as they travel here on the back of consecutive defeats without scoring. Alexander Blessin’s men remain seven points worse off than at this stage of their only previous Bundesliga campaign, which ended in relegation in 2010/11, but with a seven-point gap to the bottom-three heading into this round, the visitors have a healthy cushion in their fight for survival this time around. [/p]
[p]Making the journey south to Mainz shouldn’t faze the visitors as they make up one of just three sides averaging more points in their away games, whilst they’re also the only side yet to draw a league game on the road (W4, L7). That run could come to an end if history is to be believed, as despite not winning an away H2H since 1994, the majority of St. Pauli’s league trips here since have seen the points shared (D6, L3). [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Jonathan Burkardt made his first goal contributions since returning from injury last weekend (G1, A1) to take his seasonal league tally to 13 – he also scored twice in the reverse fixture. Yet to net since their top scorer Morgan Guilavogui was sidelined with injury, St. Pauli may rely on the likes of Johannes Eggestein to end their goal drought with his last two goals being match openers away from home. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: St. Pauli are the only Bundesliga side to lose every single game when conceding first this season (L13). [/p]
