Mallorca vs Girona prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2022-09-02 12:00.
Club president Andy Kohlberg recently spoke out about his ambitious target of making Mallorca "the best in Spain", so he would have been pleased with their first win of the season in the last round of La Liga (LL) action. That 2-0 triumph at Rayo Vallecano was led by high-profile signing Vedat Muriqi, who has now scored in back-to-back matches, whilst a backline that also kept a second clean sheet after just three LL rounds (W1, D1, L1) will not have gone unnoticed either.
That contest saw Mallorca register four consecutive away LL clean sheets for the first time ever, and coach Javier Aguirre is now looking to set the ball rolling at home. Not since 2004/05 have Mallorca started their home league season with consecutive defeats but a 2-1 loss to Betis on matchday two has put that record at risk.
Back in the top-flight after a three-season absence, Girona started with two narrow losses from three games (W1). Whilst their well-publicised shared training with Manchester City didn't quite do the trick as Girona lost 1-0 to Celta last time out, they did continue a trend of conceding just once in each of their three LL matches, and it could be these sort of gritty defensive displays that will eventually help them avoid instant demotion.
However there will need to be a big effort to lift this side on what is their first-ever LL H2H, as the visitors are currently burdened by the club's longest losing away top-flight run (L6). A single goal may prove to be a gamechanger either way as Girona’s last two LL losses, and six of the seven previous H2Hs, ended 1-0.
Key battle: Kang-In Lee started the season well contributing two (G1, A1) of Mallorca’s last three goals. Trying to thwart him is Girona keeper Juan Carlos who’s looking for his first clean sheet against Mallorca since November 2016 after losing four of the five following matches, three by a 1-0 scoreline!
Hot stat: Eight of Mallorca’s last ten LL matches saw the half-time result replicated at full-time.
