Mallorca Girona prediction 2024-03-03

Mallorca vs Girona prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2024-03-02 17:30.
Mallorca will be hoping they don't get too distracted by their upcoming Copa del Rey final as they continue to fight for their place in the Spanish top flight. The Pirates beat Real Sociedad on penalties in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Tuesday, meaning they remain on course to lift the trophy for the first time since 2003. However, with only a six-point cushion down to the bottom three ahead of this round, they cannot afford to take their eye off the ball in La Liga.

The club’s position in the table certainly hasn't been helped by a miserable run of one win from their last eight league outings (D3, L4). Two of those defeats have come here at Son Moix, and having lost 2-1 to Real Sociedad last time out in league action, Mallorca are at risk of suffering back-to-back La Liga home defeats for the first time since October 2022.

They might not fancy their chances of avoiding another loss against high-flying opponents Girona, who have the division’s second-best away record (W8, D3, L2). Concerningly, those two defeats have come in their last couple of matches on their travels, at Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, hampering their hopes of lifting a first Spanish crown, although the league table would render this a simpler task on paper.

Recent H2H history isn’t on the side of Míchel’s men given they have not won any of the last five away H2Hs (D2, L3). The White and Reds did at least regain some confidence in their most recent outing though, ending a three-match winless streak (D1, L2) with a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, as they now chase only a second win on Mallorca turf in the 21st century.

Players to watch: Seven of Vedat Muriqi’s last ten goals for Mallorca have been scored after half-time. Looking to out-gun him may be Girona captain Cristhian Stuani, who has helped his side to victory in 11 of the last 15 games in which he has found the back of the net (D3, L1).

Hot stat: Girona have only dropped four points after scoring first in La Liga this season (W12, D2).
