Manchester City vs Ipswich prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2024-08-23 14:00.
[p]New season, same outcome for the irrepressible Manchester City, who opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win against Chelsea on Sunday. They’re now afforded the chance to win their opening two league games for the third season running when top-flight new boys Ipswich come to town for what will be the first league meeting between these two sides since 2001![/p]
[p]City lost both H2Hs the last time they shared a division with Ipswich and were relegated, but in the midst of a 30 game unbeaten home league run (W24, D6), the chances of history repeating itself appear remote. Stretching that run to 31 would seem the outcome in waiting, not least because Pep Guardiola’s side have beaten eight of the last nine newly-promoted sides to visit the Etihad Stadium by at least two goals. [/p]
[p]It’s been a whirlwind experience for Ipswich on their Premier League return, as after being downed 2-0 by Liverpool last weekend, they probably thought it couldn’t get any tougher than that. A visit to the reigning champions quickly dispels that theory, but there’s a little added incentive for boss Kieran McKenna to cause an upset here given his prior coaching role came at City’s fierce rivals Manchester United! [/p]
[p]His team will be backed here by a sold out away end for what is their first Premier League away game since May 2002. Their relegation campaign back then ended with six defeats from their last seven travelling games (D1), which is incredibly more than they suffered in the whole of their promotion campaign last season (W12, D6, L5), offering the Tractor Boys a glimmer of hope ahead of the toughest assignment the league has to offer. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Erling Haaland was up to his usual tricks on opening day, scoring City’s opener, and he’ll expect to be on the scoresheet again here having scored at least once against all three newly-promoted sides in his two seasons at City. It’s a return home for City academy graduate Liam Delap who made the permanent switch to Ipswich in the summer – nine of his last ten club goals have served to either make the score 1-0 or 1-1. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Manchester City have conceded exactly once in five of their last six home league games.[/p]
