Marseille Lorient prediction 2023-01-14

Marseille vs Lorient prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-01-13 18:00.
Marseille convincingly beat Troyes 2-0 in midweek to close the gap on second place Lens and more importantly perhaps, solidify their grip on a Champions League place. After the last round of fixtures, Marseille were officially Ligue 1’s most in-form team after winning each of their last five matches, and with a Lorient side next up who they’ve won six-straight H2Hs against, few would bet against that run extending.

In fact, there’s a little added incentive here for Marseille too, who know a victory coupled with a Lens slip up earlier in the day would actually see them climb into second spot for the first time since matchday nine! Marseille should be confident of upholding their end of the bargain, as they’ve only lost once this season against sides starting the round beneath them (W12, D3, L1).

Though that record seems imperious, Lorient certainly won’t roll over easily as they also need points to keep pace in the race for the European spots. Most of Lorient’s momentum was gathered between September-October as they clocked up six-straight league victories, but just one win from their eight Ligue 1 outings prior has stunted their momentum somewhat (D4, L3).

Despite famously going the entirety of 2021 without an away league win, Régis Le Bris’ side have sought solace on the road this season, with their one defeat ranking as a joint-league low (W5, D3). Most of that success is built on the fact Lorient find themselves in a select group of three sides to have scored in every away league game this term, though perhaps that’s just as well given they’ve clocked up just two clean sheets in those travelling games.

Players to watch: Marseille’s Jordan Veretout was in the goals against Troyes, with his last five scoring appearances seeing him net his side’s second goal of the game. Lorient’s Terem Moffi could have an early say on proceedings though, with ten of his 11 goals this term arriving before the hour mark.

Hot stat: No Ligue 1 side has collected fewer than Lorient’s 20 yellow cards this season.
