Marseille Rennes prediction 2025-05-17

Marseille vs Rennes prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2025-05-16 19:00.
[p]After a 3-1 win away to Le Havre last weekend was supplemented by defeats for the sides sitting 4th-6th, Marseille are assured of a spot in the league phase of next season’s UEFA Champions League. With this season’s primary goal achieved, you’d be forgiven for expecting a let-up from Marseille on the final day, but that seems unlikely given they’re still battling with Monaco to finish as the ‘best of the rest’ behind champions PSG. [/p]

[p]A win here against Rennes will confirm their second-place finish without worrying about what Monaco do elsewhere, and considering they’ve won six of their last seven home league games (L1), they should be confident of doing so. Roberto De Zerbi’s men are also unbeaten in six home league H2Hs (W3, D3), while they won the reverse fixture 2-1, affording them the chance to complete a Ligue 1 H2H double for the first time since 2006/07.[/p]

[p]Nothing will be on the line for Rennes here on the final day, as they’ve already confirmed a second successive bottom-half finish. They could yet match last season’s tenth-placed finish, but that’s the ceiling of their possibilities, and anything beneath that would see them post their lowest Ligue 1 finish in over a decade, which perhaps isn’t the disgrace it may seem considering they were in a relegation battle when coach Habib Beye took over. [/p]

[p]Their Ligue 1 revival under Beye (W8, L6) has been eye-catching and after beating fourth-place Nice 2-0 last weekend, Rennes may fancy taking another scalp to close out the campaign. The Red and Blacks have won the majority of their last seven away league games (W4, L3), but having lost eight of their nine away league games (D1) this term against sides currently above them in the table, it’s hard to make a case for that record not extending here. [/p]

[p]Players to watch: Amine Gouiri won’t want the season to end after netting six goals in his last three league games – he joined Marseille from Rennes in January. Arnaud Kalimuendo has plugged the Gouiri-sized hole in Rennes’ attack admirably, netting nine goals since the start of February, five of which came in the opening 15 minutes. [/p]

[p]Hot stat: Marseille’s Ligue 1 home matches this season have averaged a league-high 3.63 goals per game. [/p]
