Millwall Coventry prediction 2022-08-13

Millwall vs Coventry prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-08-12 14:00.
After becoming the first club to be eliminated from the EFL Cup between rounds one and two, Millwall at least get to head into this game without any midweek match distractions. The Lions did begin the campaign with a straightforward 2-0 home win over Stoke though, but have since failed to score in back-to-back away games, so may welcome a return to the Den this weekend.

Giving substance to that statement, only one of the last 12 visiting sides to the Den left with three points in tow (MIL: W9, D2). In fact only the automatically promoted Fulham and Bournemouth finished with a higher home points haul than Millwall last term and a continuation of that home dominance is needed if Gary Rowett’s side are to finally break into the top-six after three straight top-half finishes.

Farcical scenes ensued last weekend as Coventry’s opening home league game had to be called off due to the “unsafe” state of their pitch after heavy use across the Commonwealth Games. Even their midweek cup clash with Bristol City had to be moved to Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, so in essence Coventry will open their season with three straight ‘away’ games.

Travelling yet again shouldn’t bother the Sky Blues so much if recent H2H history is any indication of how this will unfold (W4, D2, L2). However, Mark Robins’ men may need at least a couple of goals to grab anything here, having kept just one clean sheet across their last 16 league games, and after conceding in five of their last six visits to The Den!

Key battle: Millwall’s teenage defender Charlie Cresswell has played every minute this term so far, and hit his first two senior goals either side of half-time in their season opener. Up against Cresswell is Viktor Gyökeres, who has scored at least six more league goals than any other Coventry player since the start of last season, including two goals beyond 80’ in his last three Championship appearances.

Hot stat: Coventry currently enjoy their joint-longest unbeaten run of away H2Hs in this fixture’s near 114 year history (W2, D2).
