Monaco vs Lyon prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2025-05-09 19:00.
[p]Monaco remain on course for UEFA Champions League qualification after beating struggling Saint-Ătienne 3-1 last weekend, but with the three teams immediately beneath them in the table all just a point worse off, the job is far from done. Sitting third in the table as they prepare to take on Lyon, they only trail second-place Marseille by one point as they bid to repeat last seasonâs âbest of the restâ finish behind PSG.[/p]
[p]The MonĂ©gasques are in good shape going into the closing stages of the season as theyâre unbeaten on home soil in the league this calendar year (W6, D1). That sole draw came in their last such outing, a goalless draw against Strasbourg, which although disappointing, does give them the chance to keep three consecutive Ligue 1 clean sheets here for the first time since February 2022, one of which was against Lyon.[/p]
[p]Lyon now face an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League having dropped to seventh after losing 2-1 to Lens last weekend, meaning theyâre now relying on those ahead of them dropping points over the final two matchdays. Paulo Fonsecaâs side have fallen out of form at the worst possible time, losing two of their last three in the league, as many as they had in the previous nine (W7).[/p]
[p]With every incentive to push for victory, there seems a good chance that the current sequence of 19 H2Hs without a draw could well continue (Lyon: W12, L7), particularly as Les Gones havenât drawn any of their last six on the road in Ligue 1 either (W3, L3). With eight of their last nine away league fixtures seeing both teams on the scoresheet though (W3, D1, L5), entertainment is much more likely than a stalemate.[/p]
[p]Players to watch: After closing the scoring against Saint-Ătienne, each of Folarin Balogun‘s last 15 goalscoring Ligue 1 outings for any side came in games that saw both teams score. Georges Mikautadze has scored after the 75th minute in both of Lyonâs last two games and his last five league goals all arrived after the 50th minute.[/p]
[p]Hot stat: Lyon have scored a league-high 21 goals after the 75th minute in Ligue 1 this term.[/p]
