Montpellier St Etienne prediction 2025-03-16

Montpellier vs St Etienne prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2025-03-15 16:15.
[p]Sunday brings a meeting between Ligue 1’s bottom two as Montpellier take on St-Étienne. Having lost their last six games, and eight of the ten they’ve played in 2025 (W2), hosts Montpellier sit rock bottom of the table and trail their opponents by five points. More importantly, they are six points adrift of 16th, the spot which would at least earn them a shot at survival through a play-off, while they’re seven points adrift of definite safety pre-round.[/p]

[p]Losing out to Lyon (4-1) and Rennes (4-0), Jean-Louis Gasset’s side have conceded four goals in each of their last two home games, an unwanted first for the club. Leaking goals in that fashion has become a familiar feeling, and having not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 31 Ligue 1 outings, it comes as no surprise that they have conceded more than any other side in the division pre-round (59).[/p]

[p]St-Étienne haven’t fared much better defensively, conceding just two league goals fewer than Montpellier, and their form is equally as pitiful. Having beaten Reims 3-1 in Eirik Horneland’s first game in charge on January 4th, the Greens are now winless in nine games (D4, L5), meaning they have taken three points less from the Norwegian’s first ten matches at the helm (7) than in former boss Olivier Dall’Oglio’s last ten (W3, D1, L6).[/p]

[p]This weekend’s visitors are one of just three sides across Europe’s traditional top-five leagues that still await their first away victory of the campaign having taken just three points on the road so far this season (D3, L10). That wait could well come to an end here though if history is anything to go by, with St-Étienne having won five of their last nine away H2Hs with Montpellier (D1, L3).[/p]

[p]Players to watch: Montpellier loanee Andy Delort has scored seven goals in 12 career H2Hs with St-Étienne, losing only twice (W7, D3). St-Étienne’s Lucas Stassin has scored three goals in his last four appearances, and four of his six strikes in Ligue 1 this term have come away from home.[/p]

[p]Hot stat: Montpellier boss Jean-Louis Gasset has lost four of his five career H2Hs with St-Étienne (W1).[/p]
