Newcastle Luton prediction 2024-02-03

Newcastle vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2024-02-02 15:00.
[p]Having won 3-1 away to Champions League-chasing Aston Villa in midweek, things are looking up again for Newcastle. That victory ended a run of four successive defeats for Eddie Howe’s side, but the boss insists they now have to build on that result starting with the visit of Luton Town, against whom the Magpies’ aforementioned losing run started against just before Christmas with a 1-0 defeat at Kenilworth Road.[/p]

[p]This will interestingly be the first Newcastle-held league H2H since 1992, and although the history is shallow between the pair, you’d have to go back to 1937 for the last time Newcastle were beaten at home in the league by Luton (W16, D5 since)! While it’s unlikely many in attendance here will remember that clash, most will recall Newcastle’s back-to-back home league defeats, leaving them on the brink of suffering three in a row for the first time since Howe took over. [/p]

[p]Newcastle’s midweek result perhaps wasn’t the most eye-catching, as Luton stunned Brighton by dismantling them 4-0 at Kenilworth Road – a result which pulled them out of the bottom three. Travelling hasn’t been quite as plain sailing for the Hatters this season (W2, D2, L6), and with all four of those avoidances of defeat coming against their fellow sides in the bottom five, a visit to top-half Newcastle suddenly seems a more daunting one. [/p]

[p]But hope springs eternal for Luton here, who stand on the brink of going three successive games unbeaten on the road in the top-flight for the first time since December 1988! If they are to pull that off, they’ll almost certainly have to get on the scoresheet as they’re one of just two Premier League sides this season yet to keep an away league clean sheet. [/p]

[p]Key battle: Fabian Schär was the unlikely scorer of a brace in midweek and he has scored against a newly-promoted side in three of his last five seasons at Newcastle, something he hasn’t managed yet this campaign. His primary task here may be stopping Elijah Adebayo, who in midweek became the first Luton player since Lars Elstrup in September 1990 to score a top-flight hat-trick.[/p]

[p]Hot stat: All eight of Luton’s second half away league goals scored this season arrived after the 75th minute. [/p]
