Nice vs Clermont prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2024-02-24 14:00.
Thanks in part to successive league defeats, Nice are clinging onto a top three spot ahead of the round with the chasing pack breathing down their neck. Nice are now winless in three (D1, L2) overall in the league, equalling their longest wait for a Ligue 1 victory this season, but they should be confident of snapping that streak now back at home, where they have won six of their last seven league games (L1).
That sole defeat was in their most recent game at the Allianz Arena, but they’ll hope that was an anomaly in more ways than one, as the three goals they conceded in the 3-2 defeat against Monaco was not only their first home league loss of the season, but also saw them leak more goals than in the ten such matches prior (W7, D3). They’re now at risk of losing back-to-back Ligue 1 games at home for the first time since April 2023, and ominously it was Clermont who inflicted that feat upon them then too!
While Nice are battling it out at the business end of the table, Clermont are rooted to the foot of Ligue 1 and in growing need of a miracle to turn around their fortunes. One win in 11 league games (D4, L6) certainly hasn’t helped their cause, but as one of four French top-flight sides ahead of the round to average more points per game on their travels (0.82) than at home (0.64) this season, perhaps they’ll be glad to hit the road.
That is until you see that they’ve lost four of their last five away league matches (W1), conceding at least twice in all four defeats. Hope certainly isn’t all lost though, as they actually boast a 100% top-flight record on Nice soil (W2), but given both wins came by a one-goal margin, another tight contest could be on the cards here.
Players to watch: Nice’s Evann Guessand has three home league goals to his name this term, all of which arrived after the 70th minute. Preferring to strike on his travels, Jim Allevinah has scored after half-time in three of Clermont’s last five away games in all competitions.
Hot stat: No side in Ligue 1 has seen more games level at half-time than Nice (14).
