Paris SG vs Brest prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2022-09-09 15:00.
Paris Saint-Germain have started the season with an almost perfect start in Ligue 1 (W5, D1) and an impressive average of four goals scored per game, but many observers were eagerly awaiting their UEFA Champions League opener which was touted by some as being the French champions’ first big test of the season. The Parisians didn’t disappoint, with two early strikes from Kylian Mbappé guiding PSG to a 2-1 victory against Juventus in midweek.
PSG’s 3-0 win at Nantes last week extended their unbeaten top-flight run to 15 matches (W11, D4) – the longest current such run in Ligue 1 – and Christophe Galtier’s men are largely expected to make it 16 this time around, especially as they’ve won the previous 11 H2Hs against Brest! There’s potential for PSG to do so in style too, as the last five of those wins came by a 2+ goal margin.
Whilst fans of Brest may have expected their side to struggle this season after three straight league losses to round off 2021/22, their five points and 16 goals conceded already after six rounds nonetheless still represents a concerning start to their fourth successive Ligue 1 season. The Pirates are now the bookies’ third favourites for the drop following a frustrating 1-1 home draw against Strasbourg last weekend.
Coach Michel Der Zakarian lamented his players “feverishness” on Sunday after his team played almost 60 minutes with 11 men against ten, and stated that such a repeat attitude on the pitch could be “complicated” at the Parc des Prince. Not only that, but 3+ goals conceded in three of their last four league road trips doesn’t inspire hope that Brest will claim their first point here in over 40 years!
Players to watch: Mbappé has found the net in PSG’s previous four H2Hs against Brest (G5), with three seeing him score before the break. Could that be a source of motivation for Brest’s Pierre Lees-Melou? PSG happens to be the only club amongst the five he’s faced at least nine times in Ligue 1 that he’s never scored against.
Hot stat: There’s been a record average of 0.48 red cards per match (29 in total) after six Ligue 1 rounds. Only four clubs have been spared being shown a red so far, though one of those is PSG.
