Preston vs Coventry prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-02-27 19:45.
Preston North End mounted a big second-half comeback last time out against Wigan to end their five-game winless run (D2, L3). Manager Ryan Lowe admitted that “the football wasn’t pretty” in the aftermath of that 2-1 win over Wigan, which is probably a fair assessment as Robbie Brady entered the pitch in the 80th minute and still managed to receive his marching orders!

That’s now two red cards across the last three games for Preston, so brushing up on one of the league’s worst disciplinary records could prove key in their push up the Championship table (YC: 74, RC: 3). Moving level with 11th-placed Coventry by winning this game seems a realistic goal for the Lilywhites if history is any indicator, as they’ve never lost a home league H2H (W13, D7).

But Coventry have won here before, albeit those two cup victories at Deepdale came 90 years apart, one in the very first meeting back in 1910 and another in 2000. Even so, the Sky Blues travel to Lancashire in high spirits after club top-scorer Viktor Gyökeres hit his 15th league goal of the season when securing a third straight league win at the weekend, with boss Mark Robins insisting: “He’s not finished there, that’s for sure”.

Having registered an average of just 1.07 points per game on their travels as opposed to 1.78 at home, this approximate 130-mile trip to Lancashire could prove tricky. Striking first could be the key to success though as both teams have scored in just one of Coventry’s last ten away league games (W4, D2, L4).

Players to watch: Tough-tackling centre-back Liam Lindsay has played a key role in Preston’s backline this season, but he could join a group of just four other players on 10+ Championship bookings should he receive another here. Coventry’s Gyökeres could be the man to ruin his day though as he’s grabbed the match-winning goal in seven of his 14 scoring league appearances this season.

Hot stat: Robins is winless across his last eight personal league H2Hs against Preston (D3, L5), with four of the five defeats ending 1-0 or 2-0.
