Preston Hull prediction 2024-03-02

Preston vs Hull prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-03-01 15:00.
Preston North End continued their upward trajectory with an eye-catching 3-0 away win away to Coventry in the last round to move within touching distance of upcoming opponents Hull City. As a result of that victory, the Lilywhites ended the weekend with the Championship’s second-longest undefeated run (W4, D2) and are in imperious scoring form, netting more than a quarter of their 47 league goals this season in their last five matches.

That’s in stark contrast to when Preston last faced Hull in October (L 1-0), with that game the last in a seven-match winless league run. Lowe will be desperate to flip that on its head and bring up a seven match unbeaten run this time around, but given he has seen his teams (Plymouth Argyle and Preston) score one paltry goal across six meetings with the Tigers (W1, D2, L3), history would suggest it won’t be straightforward.

Hull appear in no mood to give up their crucial sixth place in the table, taking points from direct competitors West Bromwich Albion (1-1) and Southampton (2-1) in their last two outings to strengthen their play-off credentials. It is without doubt their best Championship campaign since being relegated back to the second tier in 2017 and their chances of returning to the top-flight are almost certainly boosted by some eye-catching away form, culminating in four successive league wins on the road.

Hull can also lay claim to being the Championship’s best overachievers away from home following three consecutive 2-1 away triumphs on the road in the space of seven days during February. While their overall Championship away record (W9, D2, L6) doesn’t top the standings, Hull’s win rate of 64% (W7, D1, L3) as a pre-game outsider on their travels is by far the best of the Championship season amongst sides who have started a minimum of four matches with the underdog tag.

Players to watch: Will Keane continues to make an early impact for Preston, with his goal last weekend the sixth of his last eight to arrive before half-time. Fighting him to draw first blood will be Hull’s new cult hero Fábio Carvalho, who struck prior to the break during both of their last two league games.

Hot streak: Hull’s last six Championship wins have all been by a one goal margin.
