PSV Sevilla prediction 2023-10-03

PSV vs Sevilla prediction: EUROPE: Champions League – Group Stage betting tips on match 2023-10-02 19:00.
Early Eredivisie pacesetters PSV have recorded a perfect seven wins from seven games in league action, and manager Peter Bosz must now transfer his side’s stellar domestic form to the UEFA Champions League (UCL). The Rood-witten have scored 23 goals and conceded just two across those seven wins, but more importantly suffered a bruising 4-0 defeat away to Arsenal on matchday one of their European campaign.

They may be grateful to see their second outing in Group B fall at home, with PSV unbeaten at the Philips Stadion since November 2022. But it has been quite some time since they were victorious in the UCL proper (D3, L4), with their most recent success at this stage coming against CSKA Moscow way back in December 2015! History also stands against them when analysing their record against Spanish opposition, with the Dutch outfit returning an underwhelming six wins from 36 meetings (D13, L17).

That could instil confidence in reigning Europa League champions Sevilla ahead of their visit to Eindhoven, especially as their season has started to come to life in recent weeks. After losing the first four competitive matches of their season, a run of just one defeat in five (W2, D2) has helped stabilise their La Liga position, despite being beaten 1-0 by Barcelona on Friday courtesy of a Sergio Ramos own goal.

But that result forms part of a five-match winless run away from the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán (D2, L3), where they even failed to score in the last two. Finding a cure for their travel sickness could be key to José Luis Mendilibar’s men ending a third successive UCL group stage exit, having finished third in the group of their last two campaigns in this competition.

Players to watch: PSV midfielder Guus Til is in electric form, scoring in each of his last three appearances since being left on the bench against Arsenal. Lucas Ocampos netted for Sevilla on matchday one inside the opening ten minutes, although each of his prior three goals arrived after half-time.

Hot stat: PSV’s last 12 competitive matches produced 21 first half goals (average: 1.75).
