RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich prediction: GERMANY: Super Cup betting tips on match 2022-07-29 18:30.
After winning their first-ever major title in the form of the 2021/22 DFB Pokal, RB Leipzig are given the honour of hosting the German Super Cup as they welcome ten-time consecutive Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to the Red Bull Arena. While home advantage could prove useful in Leipzig’s first-ever Super Cup match, a victory within 90 minutes could prove elusive considering that’s a feat they’ve achieved only once after 14 all-time H2Hs (D5, L8).
Home boss Domenico Tedesco took over in December and managed to settle the ship with a commendable record of W19, D6, L5. Although not many expect the Red Bulls to make a charge for the title this term, a case can be made as no side picked up more than their 36 points during the second half of the campaign, while all of their big stars have remained at the club since then.
Unlike Leipzig, Germany’s most successful club, Bayern, have had to contend with the loss of star player and Bundesliga top scorer for five seasons running, Robert Lewandowski. Not ones to simply sit and hope, the swift acquisition of Sadio Mané from Liverpool has inspired confidence amongst the Die Roten faithful that they can record an 11th consecutive Bundesliga crown, and a confident win against Leipzig to secure a record-extending tenth Super Cup title for Bayern, would show they mean business.
Bayern’s personal changes don’t end with Mané, as boss Julian Nagelsmann’s cheque book also opened for the likes of former Ajax pair Matthijs de Ligt and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as highly-rated 17 year-old Mathys Tel. With such an array of attacking talent, but no out and out striker, expect a potentially new, exciting, and creative style of play from Bayern this term.
Players to watch: Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku contributed to 41 goals last season (G28, A13) and also scored against Bayern in each of the last two campaigns! As for Bayern, Serge Gnabry has scored against only four sides more often in his career than his four goals in 12 appearances against Leipzig (W7, D4, L1).
Hot streak: Every German Super Cup since a goalless draw between Dortmund and Schalke back in 2011 has produced two or more goals.
