RB Leipzig Mainz prediction 2023-04-01

RB Leipzig vs Mainz prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-03-31 13:30.
RB Leipzig’s Champions League (UCL) hopes took a damaging hit before the international break when they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Bochum. That followed a humiliating 7-0 loss to Manchester City which dumped them out of this year’s UCL competition. With the club starting this round one point behind the top four, defender Marcel Halstenberg asserted how important it is to “get back to winning ways”.

Manager Marco Rose should be glad this contest takes place on home turf where Leipzig have been formidable for most of the campaign. They lost just one Bundesliga home fixture all season (W9, D2) and their home points tally of 29 was second only to Borussia Dortmund. Key to their home success has been dominant starts, a point captured by the fact they’re still yet to concede a single league goal at the Red Bull Arena before the 30th minute – while scoring a combined nine themselves in the process.

Although the break came at a good time for the hosts, the same can’t be said for Mainz who had built a head of steam following an unbeaten run stretching six league matches (W4, D2). Only one Bundesliga team had picked up more points in that time, helping Bo Svensson’s side climb from 12th to ninth in the table and just three points behind sixth coming into the gameweek.

This fixture is set to be the acid test for Mainz’s solid form, particularly as they’re winless across six Bundesliga away games at RB Leipzig (D1, L5); in each they conceded 2+ goals. A run of just one win from five away league outings also doesn’t build much confidence that they can halt that winless record here.

Players to watch: Leipzig’s Timo Werner boasts more goals against Mainz than any other club with 13 from 14 appearances. Karim Onisiwo could make Mainz history by becoming their outright all-time top flight scorer after equalling the existing record (31) in his last appearance.

Hot streak: None of Mainz’s last eight away league matches have been goalless at half-time.
