Real Madrid vs Dortmund prediction: EUROPE: Champions League – League phase betting tips on match 2024-10-21 19:00.
[p]Less than five months after Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to win the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League (UCL) title, they meet again in one of the most eye-catching clashes of matchday three. For once, the hosts are on the back foot after suffering their first defeat in 15 UCL matches when beaten 1-0 by Lille on matchday two, although they come into this having beaten Celta Vigo 2-1 in La Liga on Saturday.[/p]
[p]They remain an almost unstoppable force in their own country as Los Blancos haven’t lost a UCL home game since April 2022 (W11, D3), with three of the last four of those fixtures against German opponents (W2, D1). And as they’ve never lost a H2H here (W5, D2), the reigning European and Spanish champions also have history on their side.[/p]
[p]In fact, no team have ever failed to win having played more UCL away matches at one venue than Dortmund have here, but after scoring ten times in the competition this term already (W2), perhaps they are primed to prevail here. Beating Celtic 7-1 on matchday two was a statement win, and one that put them top of the table ahead of their trip to the Spanish capital.[/p]
[p]Although they followed that up with a surprise defeat to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, the Black and Yellows at least got back to winning ways by beating St Pauli 2-1 on Friday, and they’ll be glad of the extra day’s rest as they get back on the road. Still, although they’ve only lost one of their last six UCL away games (W4, D1), that lone defeat did ominously come in Madrid against Real’s rivals Atlético![/p]
[p]Players to watch: VinĂcius JĂşnior netted between the 65th and 75th minute of both of Real Madrid’s games either side of the international break. Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens produced an assist in both of his last two appearances for club and country – he would become the youngest Englishman ever to score against Los Blancos in the UCL if he were to net a third European goal of the season here.[/p]
[p]Hot streak: Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has never drawn a personal managerial H2H against Dortmund (W8, L6).[/p]
