Reims vs Lyon prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2022-08-27 15:05.
Reims finally picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg in what was one of only four Ligue 1 matches without at least one red card last weekend. That result would have relieved some of the pressure on manager Ă“scar GarcĂa who came into the game on the back of three straight top-flight defeats.
GarcĂa highlighted his players “courage” on Sunday after his team rescued a draw from behind and keeping that mindset will be essential here, as their previous three league games at Stade Auguste Delaune have seen them lose despite scoring first within 30 minutes! A meeting with Lyon may be a good opportunity to stop that unenviable streak though, considering they’ve lost just one of the previous eight H2Hs (W3, D4).
Visitors Lyon also escaped the wrath of the Ligue 1 referees, who handed out 11 red cards in the last round – a record for at least 30 years – when they defeated Troyes 4-1 at home. After consecutive league wins to open the season, coach Peter Bosz’s men are now in a bid to win their opening three games of a top-flight campaign for the first time since 1981/1982!
More consistency is needed on the road though, as each of the Gones’ last five top-flight away results differed from the one beforehand (W2, D1, L2). That run was bookended by a 2-1 win at Clermont last season, which is not a good omen if you consider that Lyon failed to win back-to-back away league games since May 2021.
Players to watch: Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun has already broken a 47-year record by finding the net in his opening three appearances with Reims, and could become the very first to do it in four. Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, a former teammate of Balogun, is on a scoring run as well, finding the net in his last four Ligue 1 appearances.
Hot stat: Lyon haven’t failed to score in successive Ligue 1 road trips to Reims in over 50 years.
