Rotherham Sheffield Wed prediction 2024-03-02

Rotherham vs Sheffield Wed prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-03-01 15:00.
Despite taking the lead for the third time in their last four games, Rotherham United fell to their sixth successive defeat against QPR last Saturday. Manager Leam Richardson was bullish post match insisting that his side “won’t shirk and won’t give up” but it is now just one win from their last 23 (D7, L15) for the Millers who are 13 points behind this weekend’s opponents, 23rd-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Bottom of the table, 16 points from safety and one of only three teams in the bottom half not to win last weekend, Richardson’s side are in severe trouble with a return to League One after two seasons looking like a near certainty. In addition, the arrival of in-form Sheffield Wednesday will not enthuse the home support, who have seen them beat their Yorkshire rivals just once in their last seven home H2Hs (D1, L5).

Danny Röhl’s team will make the short 7.6 mile journey targeting their fourth win in five with their only defeat coming against top of the table Leicester. They saw off mid-table Bristol City 2-1 last weekend at home with Röhl describing the victory as a “big, big win” as it left them just three points from safety.

Since taking over at Hillsborough with Wednesday on three points from 11 games, the 34-year-old German has impressed and is reportedly catching the eye of other Championship owners. But his priority for now is keeping his side in the second-tier and with the eighth best record in the league from December onwards, few would predict anything other than a second victory over Rotherham for Röhl, the team who he earned his first Wednesday win against in October!

Players to watch: Tom Eaves has opened the scoring inside seven minutes in Rotherham’s last two games but he has not finished on the winning side in the last six matches he has scored in (D1, L5). Anthony Musaba got an assist and a goal in the first half of Wednesday’s last away match while he also grabbed two assists before half-time in the reverse fixture against Rotherham.

Hot streak: Rotherham have not scored more than one goal in their last nine home games (W1, D2, L6).
