Salernitana Inter prediction 2023-09-30

Salernitana vs Inter prediction: ITALY: Serie A betting tips on match 2023-09-29 18:45.
Salernitana lost 1-0 at struggling Empoli on Wednesday, keeping them winless so far this Serie A (SA) campaign (D3, L3) and making it their third top-flight season in four in which they’ve failed to claim a victory after six games. As far as good omens go, they won the seventh match on both previous occasions, so the home fans will be hopeful the pattern continues.

Head coach Paulo Sousa will surely be hoping for three points as his stock has fallen after the loss at Empoli, which he considered “the worst performance” since arriving at the club. A return to Stadio Arechi should make him more optimistic though, as Salernitana have lost just one of their last ten league matches there (W4, D5), a run which includes a 1-1 draw against current table-toppers Inter Milan, who travel to Campania off the back of a 2-1 loss to Sassuolo on Wednesday.

That defeat reduced Inter’s lead at the summit to just goal difference after six games – and marked the first time since February 2022 that the Nerazzurri had lost a SA match after leading at half-time. Head coach Simone Inzaghi was naturally disappointed, indicating that they’ll “certainly have to analyse the last 35 minutes” as they look for an instant rebound.

One loss shouldn’t detract from Inter’s start to 2023/24 however, as they have been the best defensive side in the league so far, conceding only three goals. The champions from three seasons ago have been impressive on the road too, winning six of their last seven away league games (L1), including emerging victorious in both such encounters this SA campaign. Each of those wins was accompanied by a clean sheet, so Inzaghi will hope that the loss to Sassuolo was just a blip defensively.

Key battle: Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was between the sticks in the corresponding fixture last term, making a flurry of world-class saves. Not involved in that game because of an injury, Hakan Çalhanoğlu could be looking forward to Saturday as he has contributed three assists in as many H2Hs, resulting in wins ‘to nil’ for Inter.

Hot stat: Inter have won more corners than their SA opponents in all but one match this season.
