Salzburg vs Brest prediction: EUROPE: Champions League – League phase betting tips on match 2024-09-30 16:45.
[p]RB Salzburg have made a respectable start to their Austrian Bundesliga campaign (W4, D1, L1), with a 2-1 win against Austria Vienna at the weekend further evidence that they are amongst their countries’ elite. Transferring that form into Europe remains a problem, as they found out on matchday one when they were humbled in a 3-0 defeat against Sparta Prague.[/p]
[p]They may be able to bounce back against Brest given their solid home record against French opposition (W4, L1), although the fact three of those wins came by a one-goal margin would suggest a tight affair. Salzburg will hope to fall on the right side of those tight margins once again here, but in the midst of a six-match winless run in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) proper (D1, L5), that’s far from guaranteed. [/p]
[p]Brest made history on their UCL debut by beating Sturm Graz 2-1, and they now hit the road for their first-ever European away game bidding to become the first French team since Auxerre in 1996/97 to win their maiden UCL away game. Ironically it was Auxerre who beat Brest 3-0 at the weekend, and having now lost all three competitive away games this season, they’re unlikely to travel here with much confidence. [/p]
[p]One of five group/league phase debutants, it’s the nature of those defeats that will concern Brest fans the most, with all three coming by a 2+ goal margin. They may be in line to concede multiple goals again here if this season is anything to go by, as their last six competitive games this term have all seen the home team on the day score at least twice. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Oscar Gloukh was on target twice for Salzburg at the weekend and his last ten club goals have all come in winning causes. Abdallah Sima was Brest’s hero on matchday one and that’s something he’s familiar with given he’s struck the decisive goal in victory in five of his last eight goalscoring appearances. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Salzburg have only kept one clean sheet in their last nine UCL home games. [/p]
