Serbia Hungary prediction 2023-09-07

Serbia vs Hungary prediction: EUROPE: Euro – Qualification betting tips on match 2023-09-06 18:45.
Serbia have never reached a UEFA European Championship finals as an independent nation, but seven points from their opening three qualification games mean hopes are high of playing at Germany 2024, given they also have the safety net of a play-off spot thanks to their Nations League performance if they fail to qualify automatically. The Eagles remain unbeaten in their five internationals since a disappointing group stage exit at last year’s FIFA World Cup (W4, D1), a run that includes impressive victories over Lithuania and Montenegro.

Dragan Stojković’s side are arguably as strong as ever, boasting a strikeforce that contains the lethal Aleksandar Mitrović, as well as Juventus star Dušan Vlahović, who has netted three of their five goals in qualifying so far. The pair will likely again be involved as Serbia attempt to make it back-to-back home wins in Euro qualifying for the first time since 2011.

Standing in their way are a Hungary side who have had an equally impressive start to their campaign, picking up two wins and a draw from three games without conceding a single goal. Such form has put Marco Rossi’s side top of Group G on goal difference, but he insists “being in first place now doesn't matter” at such an early stage in the campaign.

Even so, this is only the second time the Magyars have accumulated seven points from their first three qualifying games, matching a feat last achieved back in 1966/67. The Class of 2023 will be hoping to go one better than their predecessors though, who failed to make it to Euro 1968, as they go in search of a seventh international without defeat (W4, D2) which would take them one step closer to reaching a third successive Euros.

Players to watch: Mitrović has been in superb form for Serbia recently, netting eight goals in his nine competitive internationals since May 2022 (W5, D2, L2). Captain Dominik Szoboszlai may be Hungary’s talisman, and he’ll be looking to extend a record of just two defeats from his last 11 competitive internationals (W6, D3), scoring goals in three of those victories.

Hot stat: Serbia have scored at least twice in seven of their last eight home games.
