Sheffield Wed Plymouth prediction 2024-03-05

Sheffield Wed vs Plymouth prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-03-04 19:45.
From looking dead and buried on Danny Röhl’s arrival, Sheffield Wednesday now have a real chance of Championship survival, with a fourth league win in five seeing them defeat bottom-of-the-table Rotherham United 2-0 on Saturday. As a consequence, the Owls are now only three points adrift of safety, while upcoming opponents Plymouth Argyle, who sit 16th, are just five points better off.

If Wednesday triumph on Tuesday, it would be the first time since April 2017 that they have strung together four-straight victories in England’s second tier. They appear well-placed to do so given only promotion-chasing duo Ipswich Town and Leeds United have picked up more Championship points in the last five games than Wednesday’s 12, while Röhl’s men have conceded just three goals in that period, the joint second-best figure after Leeds.

Plymouth by contrast are slipping towards the relegation zone following one win in five (D1, L3). Ian Foster’s side are therefore probably happy to be back on the road as they look to register their third Championship away victory in four having surprisingly beaten Middlesbrough 2-0 in their last road trip, although they haven’t secured back-to-back successes on their travels in this division since their previous season at this level way back in 2009/10.

This H2H is one that Plymouth have largely enjoyed in recent meetings, winning six of their last nine (D1, L2), including the reverse fixture 3-0, but the Pilgrims have lost both of their last two encounters at Hillsborough and must make sure that they keep things tight at the back, given that they have the third-worst Championship defensive record this campaign.

Players to watch: Wednesday’s resurgence has been down in no small part to the form of January arrival Ike Ugbo, with the Troyes loanee netting a hugely impressive six times in five matches. Morgan Whittaker is currently on a four-game goal drought, but he got Plymouth’s second last October against the Owls and is the joint second-highest scorer in the league this season.

Hot streak: None of the last 11 H2Hs have ended level.
