Southampton Everton prediction 2022-10-01

Southampton vs Everton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2022-09-30 14:00.
A 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa prior to the international break left Southampton looking back on consecutive Premier League (PL) defeats ‘to-nil’ for the first time since May 2021. Coach Ralph HasenhĂŒttl was scathing in his assessment, stating that his men were “not sharp enough, not quick enough, not good enough” with the ball against a physically-strong side.

With Southampton going the whole of September without a home game, this fixture may provide respite, especially as the Saints have overcome fellow PL founders Everton in five of the previous six H2Hs at St Mary’s. That forms part of a trend where all of the Saints’ home H2Hs won or lost from 1992/93 onwards have favoured the first scorer (W13, L4).

Everton themselves will travel with newfound confidence though, following a 1-0 victory over West Ham, which saw them avoid an unprecedented winless seven-game start to a 38-game PL season. Despite their relatively poor start to the season, the Toffees spent the international break with the joint second-best defensive record in the league – equal with last season’s top-two!

Much praise has also gone to a strong midfield recently shorn of the departed Allan, but with just one away league win in 12 months, the hard work has only just begun. Everton are also pointless from the last nine PL away games where they’ve trailed at the break, since snatching a draw from a half-time deficit at Old Trafford a year ago this weekend.

Players to watch: Adam Armstrong remains Southampton’s last matchwinner, while namesake Stuart Armstrong decisively netted first in last season’s corresponding H2H. As for the visitors, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in line to return from injury, and eager to extend Everton’s unbeaten run across his last seven goalscoring away games (W4, D3).

Hot streak: Everton have lost all four previous PL games played on this date (Oct 1).
