Southampton Manchester City prediction 2025-05-10

Southampton vs Manchester City prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-05-09 14:00.
[p]Just when Southampton fans may have thought that their Premier League season could not get any worse, they travelled up to the Midlands last weekend and saw their team comfortably beaten by Leicester City. Not only did that result confirm that the Saints will finish 2024/25 as the division’s worst side, but it also means that they still remain on track to equal Derby County’s tally for the fewest points earned by a club in a single Premier League campaign (11).[/p]

[p]To make matters worse, with defeat here Southampton would equal the record for most losses across a season in the competition, and the arrival of Manchester City will certainly have the home faithful worried. That is partly down to the fact that the Saints have won just one of their last 15 top-flight meetings with Pep Guardiola’s men (D3, L11), though at least that sole victory came at St Mary’s in July 2020. [/p]

[p]That recent H2H dominance will be something that City will hope to further improve on, especially as they remain well in the hunt for a top-two finish in the division this term. Despite struggling for form earlier in the campaign, Guardiola’s side have since responded and have won each of their last four league matches, which leaves them just three points behind second-placed Arsenal. [/p]

[p]City’s recent inconsistent away form has prevented them from making greater progress, with defeats to the Gunners and Nottingham Forest in their last five Premier League road trips (W2, D1) highlighting that they remain far from their brilliant best on their travels. A 2-0 win at Everton in mid-April does at least give them a chance to record successive victories on the road in the competition for the first time since August![/p]

[p]Players to watch: Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could be busy here, especially as he has never faced a team more often in the Premier League than City without keeping a clean sheet (eight games). Against no other club has City’s Kevin De Bruyne been involved in more Premier League goals than against Southampton (14 – G4, A10).[/p]

[p]Hot stat: Southampton have dropped more points from winning positions than any other Premier League team this season (28). [/p]
