Stoke vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-09 14:00.
After swapping Tyne and Wear for Stoke-on-Trent, newly-appointed Stoke City manager Alex Neil has endured a difficult start as he continues his search for a first win (D1, L1). Those two disappointing results have contributed to a frustrating start to the season for the team from The Potteries, with Stoke picking up just eight points from as many Championship games (W2, D2, L4).
Stoke’s 2-1 defeat to Reading last time out was billed as a “defensive catastrophe” with Neil admitting that he simply watched “and thought wow” as his side slipped behind within 120 seconds. With just two clean sheets this campaign, Stoke sit in 20th place with eight rounds played, but now return home where they’ve only lost once this season – incidentally to Sunderland, Neil’s club at the time! Neil spoke of several players “on the injury list” ahead of this game, so he’ll be eagerly awaiting some good news before the visit of Luton Town.
The Hatters arrive off the back of a defeat themselves, losing out 2-1 to Wigan last weekend after conceding two goals in the final ten minutes. Luton had been climbing the table after winning two of their previous three games (D1), so former Stoke manager Nathan Jones will hope this is just a minor blip after sharing his ‘’disappointment’’ at losing a game in which he thought his side ‘’did enough to win comfortably’’.
Luton fell to 18th place after that result, but they can take some strong recent away form to the Bet365 Stadium after successive Championship away victories, and in the knowledge they won here last season. A 7-0 thrashing from now promoted Fulham aside, Luton have been solid on their travels, having not conceded more than two away goals in a league game since February (W6, D2, L4), so they are unlikely to roll over for the Potters here.
Players to watch: Jacob Brown has scored two of Stoke's last four league goals at home, whilst Luton’s Carlton Morris has three goals from his last four Championship appearances, including two first-half match openers.
Hot streak: Luton have been involved in just one 0-0 stalemate in a run of 29 league games since January.
