Strasbourg Clermont prediction 2023-11-05

Strasbourg vs Clermont prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-11-04 14:00.
While Strasbourg’s lowly position of 14th ahead of the round sees them just two places above the relegation play-off spot, such is the tightly-packed nature of the Ligue 1 table, that victory over Clermont could see them climb into the top half. With a largely positive H2H record in all competitions (W5, D5, L2), the chances of that appear plentiful, even if they do arrive on the back of a four-match winless run (D1, L3).

Perhaps they can take some encouragement from their 1-1 draw against Rennes last weekend, a result boss Patrick Vieira saw as positive as it halted a three-match losing league run. Vieira subsequently said he wants his side to “confirm” they’ve snapped out of their downward spiral in this match, but with just one home league clean sheet this season (W2, D1, L2), it may need a positive attacking display for Strasbourg to do so.

The visit of a Clermont side who have failed to score in a joint-league high five Ligue 1 games this season is probably timely then. As a result, Clermont find themselves occupying one of the two automatic relegation spots, and regardless of the result here, that’s where they’ll end the day such has been the dismal start to their season (W1, D2, L6).

It’s hard to find many positives for Clermont this season, but the fact they did win on their last away league outing perhaps offers some hope that all is not lost here. That win against Lyon contributed to their return of five points after nine games, and ominously, five of the last six teams with that tally at this stage have gone on to be relegated.

Players to watch: Lebo Mothiba netted Strasbourg’s equaliser against Rennes, his third goal of the season, and one more goal would mark his best scoring campaign since 2018/19. Muhammed Cham tends to be Clermont’s biggest goal threat and he often strikes first, with four of his last six club goals serving as the game opener.

Hot stat: Strasbourg are the only Ligue 1 side not to have scored a first-half goal this season.
