Stuttgart headed into the World Cup break alternating between Bundesliga wins and defeats (W3, L4), and resume inside the bottom three having claimed fewer wins in their first 15 games than every top-flight campaign since their relegation in 2015/16 (W3, D5, L7). One thing he’ll hope is that they remain a scoring threat as defeat to Schalke (L 1-0, Nov 9) was their first failure to score on the road in the league this term.
Players to watch: Serhou Guirassy scored within the opening 15 minutes of each of Stuttgart’s last two home fixtures, both of which they won. Similarly, Mainz’s last two league victories came after Marcus Ingvartsen broke the deadlock inside the opening 40 minutes.
