Stuttgart Mainz prediction 2023-01-21

Stuttgart vs Mainz prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-01-20 14:30.
Stuttgart headed into the World Cup break alternating between Bundesliga wins and defeats (W3, L4), and resume inside the bottom three having claimed fewer wins in their first 15 games than every top-flight campaign since their relegation in 2015/16 (W3, D5, L7). More bad news arrived recently when defender Dan-Axel Zagadou suffered an ankle injury in training, ruling him out until March.

A growing injury list is concerning but as all three of their league victories this term came at home, the Reds will be relieved to be restarting here, especially after winning three of the last four home H2Hs (L1) against Mainz. However, as only Augsburg have conceded more set-piece goals at home than their four this Bundesliga campaign prior to the round, they’ll need to be wary given the last two goals they conceded here against Mainz came from corners.

Bo Svensson’s men might have been grateful for the World Cup giving them the chance to regroup as they’d won none of their four league games leading into the break (D1, L3). As they strive to build on last term’s eighth-place finish, there’s work to do as the 05ers are two points worse off than where they were after 15 league games last term.

Still to draw a league away game this term (W4, L4), Mainz have a longer list of players on the sidelines than their hosts, giving Svensson – who’s never beaten Stuttgart (D1, L2) – plenty to think about. One thing he’ll hope is that they remain a scoring threat as defeat to Schalke (L 1-0, Nov 9) was their first failure to score on the road in the league this term.

Players to watch: Serhou Guirassy scored within the opening 15 minutes of each of Stuttgart’s last two home fixtures, both of which they won. Similarly, Mainz’s last two league victories came after Marcus Ingvartsen broke the deadlock inside the opening 40 minutes.

Hot stat: Stuttgart have kept a joint league-low one clean sheet this Bundesliga campaign.
