Sunderland Blackpool prediction 2022-10-04

Sunderland vs Blackpool prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-10-03 18:45.
After five games in the Sunderland hotseat, Tony Mowbray has posted mixed yet solid results (W2, D2, L1) after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Preston. That result perhaps wasn’t too surprising given Preston’s well-known solidity and Mowbray echoed that sentiment by highlighting that they scored five in the prior two games so “I don’t see it [scoring goals] being an issue at all”.

With just three defeats across the first 11 rounds, this is Sunderland’s best start to a second-tier season since their 2004/05 promotion season, and they’ve actually lost fewer games at this stage than in their two second-tier promotion campaigns in this century! Having also won both of their midweek league games by a 3-0 scoreline this term, the Black Cats may be feeling lucky ahead of the visit of Blackpool.

Although the Seasiders put in a spirited performance against Norwich last time out, a narrow 1-0 defeat consigned Michael Appleton’s charges to a run of just one win from the last seven games (D2, L4). That result cemented a worse 11-game start than in four of Blackpool’s last five second-tier campaigns, so victory may be necessary for Appleton to keep the travelling Tangerines faithful on his side.

Blackpool have conceded five times across back-to-back away defeats ahead of this, yet playing on the road has still been something of a boon this term with 64% of their points coming on their travels (W2, D1, L3). Another positive is the fact that Blackpool are unbeaten in four straight league H2Hs (W2, D2) and one more good result will secure their longest streak of unbeaten league games against Sunderland since 1953!

Players to watch: Having already scored in Serie A and the Europa League knockout stages during his fledgling career, it seems only a matter of time until 20 year-old Amad Diallo gets off the mark for Sunderland. Blackpool will be just hoping anyone can find the net considering Charlie Patino has scored their only goal in over five hours of play up until this point.

Hot stat: Sunderland boss Mowbray has never lost a personal home meeting with Blackpool in the EFL (W3, D4).
