Sunderland Burnley prediction 2022-10-22

Sunderland vs Burnley prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-10-21 14:00.
Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray felt his side were a little hard done by in their 2-0 midweek defeat against his old side Blackburn, having what he felt was a penalty waved away just 22 seconds before Blackburn struck the opener. The Black Cats must now channel that sense of injustice ahead of the visit of Burnley to the Stadium of Light, as they seek to extend their ten-game unbeaten home H2H run against the Clarets (W7, D3).

Making the Stadium of Light a fortress undoubtedly holds the key to Sunderland’s success this season, and just one home league defeat so far (W2, D4, L1) would indicate Mowbray’s side are keeping their 30,000+ season ticket holders content. However solid that home form is, no side in the league has drawn more games on their own turf than Sunderland so far, and there’s no guarantee that run ends here as they now welcome the Championship’s joint-highest away drawers.

After two successive Championship wins ‘to nil’, third-placed Burnley’s biggest problem reared its ugly head yet again in midweek as they scored first in their match against Birmingham, but ended up drawing the game 1-1. It’s now 12 points dropped from winning positions this season for Burnley, who seemingly have no issue drawing first blood in a game, after now scoring the opening goal in 12 successive matches in all competitions (W6, D6).

The eternal optimists at Burnley will point to the fact that they are currently 12 Championship games without defeat, and over half way to eclipsing their 23-match unbeaten run of 2015/16 – a season which ended in promotion. You would have to fancy Burnley to extend that run here too considering they have lost just one of their last 14 Championship games against newly-promoted sides (W11, D2), albeit they have never won at the Stadium of Light since its inception in 1997.

Players to watch: Sunderland may look to Jack Clarke for inspiration, but it may come late given his last three club goals were the last of the game. Meanwhile, Burnley’s Nathan Tella is a happy traveller with his last three goals coming on the road, two of which opened the scoring.

Hot streak: Burnley have scored exactly once in five straight away league games.
