Sunderland Cardiff prediction 2022-11-05

Sunderland vs Cardiff prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-11-04 15:00.
After a disappointing Championship run of just one win in their last eight matches (D4, L3), Sunderland steadied the ship somewhat with a pressure-relieving 2-0 win over Huddersfield last time out. Most would’ve thought that to be a good result for Sunderland, but not manager Tony Mowbray, who described the victory as “probably the worst performance since I've been here.”

That result leaves the Black Cats smack-bang in the middle of the table in 12th position, and after back-to-back away games, they head back to the Stadium of Light seeking to further increase their buffer over the relegation zone. Mowbray‘s comments after the Huddersfield game might’ve been better suited to his side’s last home outing where they lost 4-2 to Burnley, meaning Mowbray could now become the first Sunderland manager since April 2018 to lose back-to-back home league matches.

Contrary to their hosts, Cardiff City come into this game having lost 2-1 in midweek against Watford, their fourth defeat in their last five matches (W1). The managerless Bluebirds will now see those in the relegation zone looming large in the rear-view mirror, as they occupy 18th place and hold just a two-point advantage over those in the bottom three.

On their travels, Cardiff have been unconvincing to say the least, losing six of their nine away league matches this season (W2, D1), with only two sides picking up less points away from home. They can perhaps draw confidence from the last time they shared a league campaign with Sunderland though, as they did the double over their hosts in the 2017/18 Championship season.

Players to watch: Sunderland midfielder Alex Pritchard scored the opener against Huddersfield in midweek, and has now netted his team’s first goal in eight of his last nine goalscoring outings. Meanwhile, Cardiff’s Callum O'Dowda might need to carry some of the goal scoring load here, having netted four of his last six goals away from home.

Hot stat: In his 16 managerial meetings in the Championship against Cardiff, Mowbray has only been on the losing end twice (W8, D6).
