Twente vs Heerenveen prediction: NETHERLANDS: Eredivisie betting tips on match 2023-03-04 20:00.
What on earth has been going on with FC Twente lately? Ron Jans’ team looked near certainties to continue challenging for a top-four place going into the new calendar year, but three losses from their last four competitive outings (and a record of W1, D3, L3 from their last seven) that included a KNVB Cup elimination at the hands of Ajax has turned their season upside down.
Still, SC Heerenveen should certainly not assume their upcoming trip to Enschede will be easy. Even despite their recent stumble, Twente remain the Eredivisie’s second-best performing home team (after PSV) with nine victories from their 11 home games. That success has been built on the foundation of an almost impermeable defence that has conceded just three goals across that 11-game slate at the Grolsch Veste. Twente’s goalscoring production has waned recently after winning at home by 3+ goals was habitual earlier in the season, but they should be able to extend their run of 21 consecutive scoring appearances at home.
Not least because the visitors from Heerenveen have now completed ten consecutive games across all leagues and cups without a clean sheet, even including when knocking second-tier side NAC Breda out of the national cup. They have plummeted down the table in far more dramatic fashion than their hosts, relinquishing an opportunity to claim a European position to drop into the bottom half. The Frisians have lost five of their last six league outings and their only Eredivisie wins in 2023 were in derbies against Cambuur and Groningen. Their decline hit a new low last week when they held a 1-0 lead at home to Waalwijk at the one-hour mark only to lose 4-1.
That Heerenveen are not playing in their own Abe Lenstra Stadium this weekend only appears to be an advantage for the club, who began this round in a group of six teams to be averaging more points per game on the road (1.45) than at home (1.17). One positive is that Osame Sahraoui has immediately proved to be a welcome and eye-catching addition to the squad since his arrival, and after Wednesday’s KNVB Cup defeat to Feyenoord, he even drew compliments from winning manager Arne Slot.
Players to watch: Ricky van Wolfswinkel has racked up five goals from his last four games against Heerenveen, whilst one of Heerenveen right back Milan van Ewijk’s four Eredivisie goals this season came in the reverse H2H.
Hot streak: Heerenveen’s last eight Eredivisie away matches were drawn at the half-time break.
