Werder Bremen Wolfsburg prediction 2023-01-28

Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-01-27 14:30.
Werder Bremen took the lead against Union Berlin on Wednesday, but they ended the night disappointed with a 2-1 defeat, their fourth loss in a row in the league. Still, that was an improvement on last weekend’s 7-1 thrashing by Cologne even if they missed out on ending the first half of the season on 24 points, which manager Ole Werner had identified as their target prior to hosting Union Berlin.

They haven’t bettered that in the top-flight since 2011/12 so if they’re to put that to one side and achieve a first Bundesliga top-half finish since 2018/19, then some consistency at home would be much welcomed. But without a draw here since their first home game of the season (W3, L5), it’s been more miss than hit for Die Werderaner so far.

The opposite is true for Wolfsburg, whose midweek 5-0 win over Hertha Berlin matched their longest Bundesliga winning streak since 2014 (W6), and following up their 6-0 drubbing of Freiburg with another emphatic triumph shows that the World Cup break did them no harm. Signing French defender Nicolas Cozza to replace Jérôme Roussillon should also boost a backline that’s conceded just 20 league goals this season.

Two of those came in August’s reverse fixture (D 2-2) although a repeat seems unlikely as none of the last 11 H2Hs here were drawn (Wolfsburg: W6, L5). The visitors will be targeting more records as winning would extend their five-match unbeaten run in league away games (W3, D2) and see them achieve seven straight league victories for the first time since their Championship-winning 2008/09 campaign.

Players to watch: Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug netted before half-time against Wolfsburg on matchday one, but five of his next ten league goals came after the 80th minute. More likely to strike early is Jonas Wind, who has netted three goals between the 25th and 40th minute across Wolfsburg’s last two games.

Hot stat: Only Leipzig have bettered Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga second-half record this term (2H: W9, D5, L3).
